If you are going on vacation, place a coin on an ice cup in the freezer. This trick will save you a lot of money!

When there's a storm outside or we're going on a long vacation, the last thing we think about is the food in our fridge. No one wants to come back home and find a fridge full of spoiled food.
Now you can save yourself a huge headache in deciding what is ok to be left and what needs to get thrown away. And all thanks to a woman and her tremendous trick that will save you a lot of money.
Sheila Pulanco Russell, is the proud woman who helps millions of people around the world. This trick will require a cup of coffee, a coin (doesn't matter which), and tap water.
Sheila shared her trick on Facebook for the whole world to see:
"I've heard of a great tip. It's called 'one cup tip'.
You put a glass of water in the freezer. Freeze it, then put a coin on the ice that froze in the glass and leave it in the freezer".
At first this may seem confusing, but there is an important reason to do so before leaving home for a long time.
Sheila explained how it exactly works in her Facebook post that went viral:
"When you come home after a long absence you can tell if the food in your freezer has broken down and then froze again, or stayed frozen for the entire time you were away.
If the coin falls to the bottom of the glass it means the food has thawed and should be thrown to the trash.
But if the coin is up or in the middle of the glass then your food is still good and edible.
It would also be a good idea to keep it in the freezer at all times and if there is a power outage this tip will help you know. If you feel that your food has thawed and is not edible, just throw it away.
The most important thing is to maintain our health".
Now you will have an easy way to tell if you had a power outage at home and whether the food in the freezer defrosted and needs to be thrown away or not.
