A depressed dog refused to leave mom's pregnant belly - doctors remained stunned by what they discovered in the hospital
|
21 years old Alhanna Butler, and her husband Ricky, 25 years old, live in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, with their son Lincoln and their dog Keola.
And if not Keola, their american Akita dog, Alhanna and their son probably would not be alive today.
When Alhanna was pregnant with Lincoln she began to experience severe pain in her lower back.
She went to the hospital, and the doctors told her there was nothing to worry about. They said it was a side effect of pregnancy and that she had nothing to worry about.
So Alhanna came back home and continued her life as usual. But she knew that something was wrong with her body. And she was not the only one, Keola felt the same way.
The Akita dog started to behave strangely at home. Sometimes she would just sit down in front of Alhanna and just stare at her, other times she would stick near her owner and act nervously when Alhanna left the house.
It was a behavior that Alhanna had never seen in her beloved dog.
Things started to get more serious when Keola was lightly pushing Alhanna's belly and crying nonstop. In the end, Alhanna listened to her dog and went back to the hospital.
"My mother called and said, 'Listen to your dog, she's trying to tell you something'", Elhana said.
When she got back to the hospital, Alhanna was thoroughly examined, and after the tests she was transferred directly to intensive care.
That's where she discovered she was on the verge of death.
It turns out that Alhanna suffered from a rare double infection in the kidneys. She also suffered from an antibiotic-resistant bacterium that killed her from the inside.
The doctors told her that if they had gone through a few weeks without treatment, she would probably have died. And then, for two weeks she fought for her life in the hospital, with the doctors doing everything they could to save her and the baby in her stomach.
The doctors had to create new antibiotics in the laboratory, one specially engineered for the infection Alhanna had.
In the end, fortunately, she was saved, and her birth went as planned. Her son Lincoln was born without complications.
Dogs have the ability to detect various diseases, including cancer. Some dogs are especially trained to smell different types of cancer.
This ability dogs have is simply amazing - and Keola is just another example.
"I have no doubt that me and Lincoln would not be here today without Kaula", Elhana said.
The young mother said it was not the first time that Keola had shown a sixth sense. It turns out that the Akita was the first to let her know she was pregnant.
"We did a test after a test, but all came out negative, and one day I threw a negative test and went shopping", Alhanna said.
"When we came back, Keola was digging the bag and took out the pregnancy test, she never touched the trash, so it was really strange, she just laid on the floor with the pregnancy test attached to her as if she were trying to tell us something."
When baby Lincoln was born, healthy and strong, he and Keola developed a very special relationship.
A few years have passed and Keola and Lincoln are still best friends!
Maybe it was not strange at all, given the circumstances.
