At age of 13 she committed suicide after being brutally raped - so her mother found a letter that revealed the heartbreaking truth

We have all experienced the torment of bullying at some point in our lives.

Whether we have witnessed others being victimized, observed someone being bullied, or endured the experience ourselves, the reality is that countless children, teenagers, and even adults face relentless psychological and physical bullying daily, transforming their lives into a living nightmare.

Cassidy Trevan from Melbourne, Australia, understood this all too well.

She was a victim of bullying for an extended period, primarily suffering from psychological abuse, though it sometimes escalated to physical aggression.

Her tormentors hurled insults, ambushed her at school and online, and even vandalized her parents' home.

The situation deteriorated to the point where Cassidy could no longer attend school; it became unbearable. Despite attempts to communicate with her bullies, nothing changed.

After several months away from school and with some support, she resolved to give it another chance. She began attending school two days a week to help ease herself back into the environment.

The girls who had treated her poorly extended their apologies and even expressed a desire to befriend her. They invited her to join them at a festival.

Naturally, she was eager to accept. After being an 'outsider' for so long, the longing for companionship outweighed her previous experiences of mistreatment.

Unbeknownst to Cassidy, the girls had devised a far more sinister plan than anyone could imagine

The girls led Cassidy to a nearby house, where they had arranged for two adult men to assault her.

While the men took turns violating Cassidy, the girls waited outside. She was just 13 years old.

Cassidy reported the incident to the police; however, the case was closed due to insufficient evidence, and all involved parties were released.

In response, Cassidy's mother, Linda, transferred her daughter to a different school and moved with her, yet the bullies always found a way to continue their harassment. They accosted her in stores and even called her mother, asking to speak with her.

Linda did everything within her power to help, all while witnessing her daughter's condition decline. Eventually, Cassidy could hardly leave her bed.

In December 2015, she tragically took her own life.

Following Cassidy's death, Linda discovered a letter her daughter had written—a letter that everyone should read. It is a message directed at all those who perpetrate bullying and to anyone who has been a victim of such cruelty.

Here’s what Cassidy wrote:

"I was a student at (the name of the school has been omitted) and I was raped by some of the students who still attend. I know it may sound like I am seeking attention, but that could not be further from the truth. I have many reasons for writing this, and I will explain them."

"My intention is to warn others (especially students, but also parents) about what transpired, as I fear that if they could do it to me, they could target other children like me—or at least attempt to. You possess the power to stop it. Remember, the individuals who did this to me were students at (name omitted), which is hard to believe, I know. But it is the truth."

"I am not doing this as an act of revenge against the students who assaulted me, plotted the assault, bullied me regarding it, or laughed at my suffering. Nor am I seeking attention, as I reiterated earlier—I want that to be clear."

"I am doing this because more than 1,500 students aged 7 to 12 currently attend this school and deserve to be warned. I feel that, due to what happened to me and the inaction of the school staff to assist me (which I will discuss later), it is now my responsibility to alert all of you and make you aware of the true events (not just the rumors you may have heard at school)."

"But I also do this for myself. After a year and a half, I finally want to be left alone. It is astonishing how many students at school have heard stories about me and continue to share them to this day. I still receive messages on Facebook from students I have never met who call me derogatory names. I have changed schools, moved apartments, and they still find a way to contact and harass me. While I cannot stop people from spreading rumors, I can at least attempt to convey the truth about what happened, as they continue to discuss it regardless. But as I mentioned, my primary concern is for students who are unaware and at risk from others."

"If anyone ever attempts to harm you, trust me, it is worth fighting back. Fight! If you don’t, you will regret it for the rest of your life, just as I do. You can do it."

The loss of a child or teenager due to bullying is one tragedy too many. No one should endure such torment that the only perceived escape is to take their own life. We must unite—students, parents, and teachers alike—to eradicate these issues.

No one should feel isolated.

Linda's grief will never subside, and her daughter will never return. After a prolonged silence, Linda recognized that, upon discovering her daughter’s letter, she had to speak out about the horrific events that transpired to warn others.
