Passage du Gois is a road connecting the Beauvoir-sur-Mer shore with the Noirmoutier island in France.

Due to the rising tides, you can only travel on the road twice a day for a few hours before it becomes flooded. The rest of the time the road is hidden under 2 meters of sea water.

We decided to share with you some photos from the unusual road that poses quite a challenge even for the most experienced hikers.

In 1701, the natural passage connecting the island Noirmoutier was first noted on the map. At Around 1840, a shuttle service in cars or on horseback started. Today, the length of the road is about 4.1 kilometers.

The road that appears to be normal is actually extremely dangerous. Both sides of the road has special panels, telling you if you can cross the road or not. And yet, every year many adventurers are caught in the rising water when the tide comes. For those who are caught, there are lifeguard stations along the road. A person can climb the tower and wait until they are extracted or wait for the tide to fall again. But you will have to say goodbye to your vehicle!
