This is the position men love most in bed - but women hate the most
|
There is one specific position that consistently tops the list of male favorites—but for many women, the experience tells an entirely different story, revealing a gap that is hard to ignore.
Intimacy is often described as a shared experience built on chemistry, trust, and connection. In theory, it is about mutual pleasure and a sense of total synchronization. In practice, however, preferences do not always align so neatly. A position that one partner finds thrilling can leave the other feeling physically uncomfortable, awkward, or emotionally disconnected.
It is precisely within this gap—between expectation and actual experience—that the fault lines of certain "popular" positions begin to show. We are talking about a position that many men rank as one of their absolute favorites, while a significant number of women say they would happily do without it.
What makes this controversy so polarizing is not just the physical mechanics, but the emotional dynamics it creates, as well as documented risks of injury that add another layer to the debate.
Reverse Cowgirl
The position in question is "Reverse Cowgirl." In this arrangement, the man lies on his back while the woman straddles him, facing away from him rather than maintaining eye contact. From the perspective of the partner on the bottom, the appeal is often visual and physical; it offers a different angle and requires less effort on his part, creating a sense of novelty that can be exciting.
For the woman, however, the experience can unfold quite differently. Managing the movement while facing away can diminish the sense of shared intimacy, and for some, the angle itself can feel physically uncomfortable rather than pleasurable.
“Staring at someone’s feet isn’t sexy”
Feedback online has been blunt and direct. Some women described a feeling of awkwardness, while others noted that the lack of "face-to-face" contact makes the encounter feel detached.
One user on Reddit summarized her frustration: “Reverse cowgirl. Boring.” Another explained: “I get that he gets a great view, but staring at someone’s feet isn't sexy. Plus, I have nothing to lean on to stabilize myself.” A third added: “I find it can be painful and I’d much rather look at my partner.”
A "Total Turn-Off" for Women
Beyond physical discomfort, there is an emotional layer that experts say should not be ignored. “Some women find this position to be a total ‘turn-off’ because it makes them feel too self-conscious, especially since they usually don’t have eye contact with their partner,” explained sex therapist Kate Campbell in an interview with *Metro*. “The fact that their back is turned to their partner is a major issue for some, who may say they feel a bit used, especially when they aren't experiencing much pleasure from the position.”
But it isn't just the lack of pleasure that makes Reverse Cowgirl unpleasant. “Others are also deterred by the horror stories of male injuries that occur in this position, usually when the woman leans forward to stabilize herself or rest,” Campbell added.
“The Most Dangerous Position”
Health experts have noted that Reverse Cowgirl carries a higher risk of penile injury compared to many other positions, primarily due to the angle and movement involved. In fact, NHS surgeon Dr. Karan Raj warns that it is "scientifically the most dangerous position"—accounting for 50% of penile fracture cases.
Dr. Raj explained in a viral TikTok post that if the two partners are out of sync, the organ can slip out and be crushed by the woman's pubic bone. He adds that “even though they contain no bones, male genitalia can break.”
Women Rank it as the Most Hated
While the medical warnings sound dramatic, they add another layer to why this position has become so controversial. For some couples, the physical risks only heighten the tension already surrounding it.
Survey data backs up the reactions found online. According to a *Men’s Health* survey, 39% of women identified Reverse Cowgirl as their least favorite position, followed by "Doggy Style" at 28%. As described by the site: “While she’s up there doing all the work, she’s also stressed about whether you’re enjoying it (while she stares at the wall or your feet) and praying she doesn't snap you in half.”
