What to do:

1. Place half an onion in a bowl (some people chop the onion).

2. Pour boiling water over the onion (but don't completely submerge the onion), and place the bowl next to or under your bed.

3. Go to bed. The room may smell like onions the next morning, but it's worth it. It turns out your cough should be gone by the time you wake up in the morning.
