I always hated cleaning the toilet and shower, until I discovered this amazing home trick
|
I love my bathroom. Now that I think about it, this might be one of my favorite places in the house.
It's where I spend most of my time in the morning when I'm getting ready for a new day, and at the end of the day, it's where I go to relax with my thoughts in the bath.
This is why it's very important to me that the bathroom will always be clean and tidy. A clean bathroom is a wonderful feeling, so I made it a habit to wipe the sink and other places a few times a week. Then once a week, I take the time to thoroughly clean the bathroom - this includes the shower, the bath, the toilet. I do all this with detergents and disinfectants.
As we are all aware, there are many harmful bacteria living in the toilet. And the last thing anyone wants is to get infected and sick because of these bacteria, so it is very important to keep the bathroom clean and tidy, especially the shower area.
Cleaning products that you can buy in the store may do the job, but they are definitely not good for your skin and respiratory system. The chemicals in these cleaners have a very bad long-term effect on your health. In fact, a recent study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine stated that there is a direct link between lung dysfunction and cleaning products. It turns out that those who use cleaning products regularly have the same lungs as a person who smokes 20 cigarettes a day for decades.
After reading this, I looked for alternatives to these cleaners that I used to clean the toilet and shower. It took some time and research, but there seems to be a do-it-yourself solution that many people praise.
I recently tried it, and I understood why it is so popular. Not only is it very easy to make, it works wonders when it comes to removing soap stains and dirt from the bathtub and shower tiles.
And the best part? You probably already have everything you need at home to make these homemade cleaners.
Personally, I think the bathtub and shower are the hardest to clean. You have to use a lot of material to clean them, and sometimes no matter how hard you scrub, they never look as good as you want them to.
Sometimes, this happens because of the type of water you have. Hard water combined with soap, shampoo, and creams can create a layer of dirt that is impossible to clean.
Instead of spending your hard-earned money on cleaning products with chemicals or expensive detergents, try this homemade cleaner. Trust me, you will notice the difference.
This is what you need:
- 1.5 cups of liquid dish soap
- 1.5 cups of vinegar
- a spray bottle
Preparation:
- Heat the vinegar in the microwave until it is hot, then transfer to a spray bottle
- Add the dish soap to the bottle, close and shake gently until the vinegar and soap mix well
- Spray a generous amount of the cleaner on the shower, tub, toilet or sink, and let it sit for 30 minutes
- Scrape if needed, if not, just rinse the surface thoroughly with water.
The strong smell of the vinegar may bother some of you, so remember to open a window or cover your face if the smell is too strong for your taste. But don't worry, after a while the smell dissipates.
How well does it work?
The good people from the blog One Good Thing took a before and after picture of the shower, and the result is simply amazing!
