Say goodbye to flies, ants and mosquitoes this summer with this easy and ingenious trick
|
Flies and ants love summer just as much as we do.
In fact, flies are attracted to vegetables and fruits, but they also attack potted plants and settle in moist soil.
Not only is it annoying and also a bit disgusting when there are flies in the house, but they can also ruin your food and pots.
And given the reproductive rate of these pesky insects, it certainly makes sense to do something about it as soon as possible.
Fortunately you don't have to run to the store and buy expensive chemicals to solve the problem. The solution is actually much closer than you think!
Most of the ingredients you need you probably already have at home. What you want to do is make a home trap like the one pictured below.
First of all you need a cup. Fill it with one of the ingredients listed below and cover it with cling film or a bag. Then make some holes in the plastic with a toothpick and place it where you see there are flies.
Red wine
Like us humans, flies love red wine - or a bit of its smell. Mix half a glass of red wine with a glass and a half of water, and pour into the trap you made.
Place the glass where you see the flies, and you will see how the flies have entered the glass and are unable to get out.
Apple vinegar
It's good as well. We also find it is cheap and easy. Heat half a cup of apple cider vinegar and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Mix well and pour into the trap.
The sweet smell of apple cider vinegar will attract flies and mosquitoes, and the dishwashing liquid will trap the curious insects inside.
Fruit and vegetable leftovers
Another easy way to attract the annoying insects is what it is that keeps them going in the first place.
Fill the glass with fruits and vegetables and you will get the same result - the flies will come in and stay inside.
Milk, pepper and sugar
If you have expired dairy products, you can use them in your trap. Heat 2 cups of milk then mix in 8 tablespoons of sugar and 4 tablespoons of pepper. Heat in a saucepan for 10 minutes and pour the liquid into a bowl.
The flies will be attracted to the sweet smell and then drown in the liquid.
Lemon oil
The smell of citrus can keep flies and mosquitoes away.
Mix 2 cups of hot water and pour in 10-15 drops of lemon / lemongrass oil into a clean spray bottle and spray the kitchen every time you see flies.
Paper funnel
You can also make a paper fly trap by rolling paper into the shape of a cone. Put the scent that attracts the flies at the end of the paper and put that end inside a glass cup or glass jar and make sure there is a small opening at the end of the cone that is inside the jar.
Put bait in the jar and see how the flies get in but fail to get out.
