A Mother's warning: If your child starts doing this, take them to the hospital right away!

We saw this video on the internet and immediately it caught our attention. The video shows a little girl acting very strangely. And we couldn't help but read on - and we're lucky we did.

The video was posted by Amanda Lewis, a mother from the United States.

One morning, her daughter could barely stand. Her legs did not function properly and she was very nervous. The mother followed her instincts and took her to the hospital.

And she was fortunate that she did it: it turns out the girl suffered from 'tickle paralysis' - something that could happen to any one of us.

We had a very scary morning today.. Fortunately everything is fine but I wanted to share it with you so that you are aware.

Evelyn began to behave strangely last night. She didn't want to stand after the bath and put on her pajamas. I helped her stand up and get into bed. She was a little nervous so I ended up sleeping with her in bed all night.

This morning she had trouble standing. She could barely walk, or crawl, and couldn't use her hands. We took some videos and sent them to our family to see if they had any idea what was happening to her. We decided to take her to the emergency room right after we took this video because her symptoms had deteriorated, and because of our history with cancer, we were very worried.

We arrived at the emergency room quickly and were immediately welcomed, thank goodness. The doctor talked to us for a minute and said that over the last 15 years he has seen 7-8 children her age with identical symptoms and most likely this is a tick's bite. They checked her out, brushed her hair well and eventually they really found a tick hiding on her scalp.

This is called tick paralysis. It can also affect dogs and can be fatal. I'm glad we took her to the hospital on time and it wasn't anything worse and we found it before things got worse.

Ticks are everywhere now so if your kids or dogs start behaving strangely, check carefully for ticks.

I feel bad about not having seen this tick before, but I would never might have guessed it was a tick. It's crazy that a small insect can do this.

We're still in the emergency room. Now that the tick has been removed, Evelyn will start to feel better in a matter of hours. She enjoys the ice cream and watches cartoons.

Update: I didn't know this video would spread so quickly on the web. So for those of you who don't know us personally, Evelyn feels much better. It took her until the next morning to get back to herself. She now acts like the usual Evelyn. She complains a lot that her head is itchy, but otherwise she's fine.

My husband and I are still in shocked from what happened to our little baby and I'm glad we were able to raise awareness of the issue. It is not common, but it is good to be aware that if your children or pets suddenly feel weakness in their hands or feet - look for a tick!

I'm so glad we brought her to the doctor before the symptoms got worse, and the doctor that day in the emergency room had experience with such cases in the past, otherwise who knows how many tests she would have done before they realized what happened to her.
