When airlines get exposure in the media, it is usually related to a delayed flight or a story that the crew did not treat customers or a passenger who had decided to run wild in the middle of the flight. Less common are stories of airlines doing good deeds.

But here's a great example of a story that deserves to be reached anywhere!

When Rebecca Kuchar Krutz sat in her chair on a United Airlines flight, she heard that the company's CEO, Oscar Muniz, would fly with them that day, of course she expected the CEO to be in first class - after all, it was his company's plane that was about to take off.

Rebecca was curious and looked to see Muniz getting on the plane, as many would have done when they discovered that a famous person was about to board their flight.

A few moments later, an old woman boarded the plane. Rebecca guessed that the woman was 80 to 90 years old.

Later on, Rebecca described what had happened on a Facebook post:

"I'm a pretty loyal Delta Airlines customer. But tonight I was on a flight with the CEO of United. I was a bit surprised seeing him walk back into the economy section of the plane to take his seat. Seated in front of me on the plane was an elderly lady in her 80’s (maybe even early 90’s). She didn’t appear to be in great health and had a bit of a hard time with her speech. Prior to boarding, I’d seen Oscar (the CEO) make his way out of a crowd of people in order to go over and speak with her."

Rebecca was surprised and pleased that Oscar took the time to talk to the old woman, and even more - he insisted that she sit in his first-class place.

After the plane landed, Rebecca heard a conversation that the old lady had with the man next to her. The woman said she was nervous when the CEO approached her but was stunned and grateful for his wonderful gesture, and she kept talking about how wonderful the CEO was to give up his seat for her.

"That, ladies and gentleman, is how it should be done. Treat our elders with the respect and care they deserve. I may very well be a lifelong United customer after witnessing that act of selflessness by a man who likely has his own private plane, and yet was humble enough to give up his seat to an elderly lady he’d never met before, because he thought she’d be more comfortable there."

Rebecca's post became viral quickly, and the CEO later interviewed for the Houston Chronicle about the event, simply saying he was taught to treat adults with respect - so it was natural for him to do what he did.

What a great tribute from the CEO of the company! Oscar is a living example of how we, as a society, must treat the elders, please share the article so that it gets the recognition it deserves!
