A Cheap cooking oil that can be found in any supermarket or grocery store is the reason for monkey extermination and ecological disaster.
The oil is palm oil, and it is a cheap oil and a common element in every home and in many food products.
Pristine forest areas are stomped by bulldozers on a daily basis to make way for Palm oil plantations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sumatra, and Borneo. The dimensions and speed of this deforestation is scary.
The orders the workers get is to get rid of any wildlife they see, and the way they do it is not important. They use their trucks to run over Orangutan monkeys. In the past 20 years, 90% of the orangutan's habitat were destroyed to make way for Palm oil plantations.
If this deforestation continues, the orangutan apes in the wild will become extinct already in the coming year! In 20 years, the jungles they call home will be vanished completely.
But we can still do something about it. All we need to do is to stop buying products with Palm oil. Check the label before you buy and help to save the orangutan monkeys.
Palm oil is not even very healthy – it is bad for your heart!
