Woman was called 'fat and smelly' on a flight - then she turned around and saw who was behind her

Has a stranger ever commented on your appearance or style? We can't understand why anyone would think that's acceptable behavior. Can't we just be who we are without people having a negative opinion of us?
Savannah Phillips is a mother from Oklahoma who, like many people, struggles with her self-image. When she travels, Savannah tries to sit alone on the plane so she won't bother anyone.
"I always try to sit in a row where I'm not next to anyone. I'm not the biggest person on the plane, but I'm not the smallest either. My biggest nightmare is for someone to be uncomfortable because they have to sit next to me," she wrote on Facebook.
Recently, Savannah had to sit next to someone on a flight, but she couldn't have imagined how painful the experience would be.
The flight attendants were just beginning the safety briefing when Savannah saw the person who sat next to her, a man in his 60s, take out his phone. The man held the phone about a foot away from Savannah so she would have to see what he was typing. To her horror, she realized he was texting about her.
"He texted someone and said he was sitting next to a 'fat a-s and smelly b-tch.' I don't even know what the rest of the text said. I turned my head as fast as I could. I was in shock, and it was confirmation of all the negative things I think about myself on a daily basis," Savannah wrote on Facebook. "Before I knew it, I could feel hot, salty tears streaming down my cheeks. I sat there and cried silently."
Savannah couldn't read any more. She was hurt and planned to ignore the man for the rest of the flight. But a man sitting one row behind them witnessed the entire incident and decided to stand up for the "fat a-s and smelly b-tch" in the row in front of him.
Suddenly, the man, whose name is Chase Irwin, stood up and tapped the man sitting next to Savannah on the shoulder.
"I need to speak to you," Chase said to the rude man. "We're switching seats. Now."
Chase confronted the man and said he couldn't believe how a person could be so cruel and write such disgusting messages about someone sitting next to him. He also said the man was heartless and should be more sensitive to the feelings of others.
The two men switched seats, and Chase sat next to Savannah. He saw she was crying, gave her a hug, and immediately tried to make her feel better.
"He encouraged me not to let that man upset me and that everything would be okay," Savannah wrote on Facebook. She also said they continued to talk for the rest of the flight, discussing family, work, and other things.
Savannah was so moved by Chase's gesture that she wrote about the incident on Facebook. She calls Chase a hero and hopes more people will understand the importance of being there for one another.
Sometimes people's behavior is just awful, but we're so glad Chase did what he did and taught that disgusting man an important lesson!
